New Office of Research Organizational Structure

Featured

UNO has seen a significant increase in the number of proposals and awards, in addition to increased compliance regulations from funding and regulatory agencies. Since the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is no longer overseeing the financial administration of awards, we have reorganized our infrastructure to better support UNO’s research community in pre-award and post-award functions.

Provost Fredrick P. Barton is the Interim Vice Chancellor of Research and Sponsored Programs and the Dean of the Graduate School.

Pre-Award

Rebecca Drake is the Pre-Award Research Coordinator and can assist Principal Investigator’s (PI’s) with proposal development and electronic proposal assistance. She is also available to train PI’s how to use the funding database IRIS and assist in researching other funding sources. IRIS is a paid subscription available to all researchers on campus.

Carol Lunn is the Executive Director and reviews proposals before they are submitted to agencies. She ensures that UNO and third party cost share requests are necessary and properly documented. In addition, any F&A adjustment requests are reviewed by Carol.

Post Award

Analida “Ana” Barrera is the Director of Post Award and is the primary negotiator for grants and contracts awards and modifications. Transfers of grants and contracts to or from UNO are also processed by Ana.

Burt Neal is the Sub/Contract Administrator and is Ana Barrera’s back up for negotiating awards and amendments. Burt is the main point of contact for requesting subcontracts/subawards on accounts where UNO is the prime awardee.

Polly Burns was hired to assist Principal Investigator’s (PI’s) monitor their subcontracts and to ensure that the university has all required documentation on file for subcontracts. She is beginning training in drafting subcontracts so she can assist PI’s from inception until closeout.

Kari Walsh Post is an Award Administrator and is one of the primary contacts for budget set ups, no cost extensions, and budget adjustments. Kari also serves on the IRB committee.

Nadia Zambrano is an Award Administrator and is one of the main contacts for budget set ups, no cost extensions, and budget adjustments.

Carol Mitton is the Development Coordinator and is creating and presenting workshops to train the research community on proper grant management.

Brett Williams is the Information Technology Professional and maintains the departmental website, a database, and all other computer related areas of the office.

Gretchen Petrie is the Office Manager and oversees the workflow of all award contracts, coordinates office events and manages the main office.
